Walking through the GW campus today I saw a guy ahead of me stop to lean against a wall. He spit on the sidewalk just before I approached him so I walked around the spit and continued on my way. By the time I reached the corner he had started walking again and passed me so I found myself walking behind him for several blocks.

As he walked he kept spitting on the sidewalk. As a white university kid approached he spit right in the kid's path. The kid called out, "Hey, man!" and the brown skinned man of some ethnic descent I can't be sure of replied with a string of obscenities punctuated with "You ******* racist!"

I watched him for several blocks as he spit in the path of men and women, mostly white. All I can think is that he wanted someone to pick a fight with him. I was tempted to hail campus security to keep an eye on the guy, but they drove by before I could catch their attention.

I hope I don't see him again.
